Mr Medvedev and Mr Fico discussed major joint projects and watched a presentation of a project to extend a broad-gauge railway line from Kosice to Bratislava and Vienna and build an international logistics terminal.
The project’s goal is to establish a competitive direct rail link between Europe, Russia and Asian countries. The project would make it possible to reduce the load on the stations connecting Europe’s railway network to the broad-gauge network used in Russia. This would make it more advantageous to deliver goods from Europe to East Asia by rail than by sea.
Mr Medvedev also met with Pavol Paska, speaker of the Slovak National Council (parliament). Mr Paska began the meeting by expressing his condolences on behalf of the people of Slovakia over the recent terrorist attacks in Moscow.
