The implementation of the Agreement will allow for the creation on a coalition basis of forces that will become part of the CSTO constant combat readiness and collective security system forces designated for rapid response to threats and challenges to the security of CSTO member states.
The Collective Rapid Reaction Forces (CRRF), created on a coalition basis, will engage in preventing and repulsing armed attacks, as well as measures to counteract new threats and challenges, fight international terrorism, the unlawful trafficking of drugs, weapons, and ammunition, and other types of transnational organised crime. The CRRF will also be responsible for responding to emergency situations and providing emergency humanitarian assistance, reinforcing forces covering national borders and guarding member countries’ public and military facilities, and resolving challenges identified by the CSTO’s Collective Security Council.
The CRRF will include constant combat readiness units allocated by CSTO members, which will be equipped with modern, compatible weapons and military equipment.
The agreement was signed in Moscow on June 14, 2009.
