In his speech, Sergei Ivanov stressed the need to promote grassroots basketball, develop school and college basketball, and provide methodology support to coaches training high-potential players.
Mr Ivanov gave separate attention to developing streetball, stating that 3x3 basketball has a good chance of inclusion in the Olympic programme.
Sergei Ivanov also noted the dissatisfactory performance by the men’s and women’s teams at the 2015 EuroBasket championship and indicated the high probability that the national teams will not take part in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
In addition, the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office mentioned the Russian Basketball Federation’s weak financial situation and noted the positive momentum in the relations with potential sponsors since Andrei Kirilenko took leadership of the Federation.
During the meeting, Sergei Ivanov was unanimously elected to the post of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Basketball Federation.
