The Presidium held preliminary discussions of candidates for the Presidential prize for contributions to strengthening Russian national unity.
In addition to Presidium members, the meeting was attended by Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov and representatives of the Presidential Executive Office and the Government Executive Office.
Opening the meeting, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov said that the new Presidential prize is important for rewarding Russian citizens for their contributions toward strengthening national civil awareness and the spiritual unity of Russia’s multinational people.
The candidates include not only prominent public figures and researchers of ethnic relations, but also representatives from the regions that have contributed to interethnic peace and accord.
The decision on the candidates will be taken at one of the next meetings of the Council for Interethnic Relations Presidium. The presentation ceremony will be timed with National Unity Day on November 4.
