In opening the meeting Magomedsalam Magomedov noted that such meetings were intended to ensure common approaches to the implementation of the national policy in the country in general as well as to exchange work experience in the regions.
He reiterated that a major effort had been made to amend the State National Policy Strategy of the Russian Federation, which included setting clear objectives for implementation that must be reached.
In this context, one of the urgent tasks at this point is to update regional plans for implementing the Strategy.
In Mr Magomedov’s opinion, Russia is maintaining a positive dynamic in terms of the public’s assessment of interethnic relations.
The Nenets Autonomous Area and the Republic of Komi are ranked highest in this respect in the Northwestern Federal District. Positive dynamics have also been noted in St Petersburg and in the Novgorod Region over the past five years.
Deputy Presidential Plenipotentiary to the Northwestern Federal District Vadim Leontyev, Pskov Region Governor Mikhail Vedernikov, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Mikhail Mishin, representatives from the Council for Interethnic Relations, from the expert and scientific community, as well as from the regions in the Northwestern Federal District also spoke at the seminar meeting.
Several decisions were adopted following the event.
During his time in the Pskov Region, Magomedsalam Magomedov met with region’s Governor Mikhail Vedernikov to discuss national policy issues and the socioeconomic development of the region.
