During the meeting, Maria Lvova-Belova and Andrei Bocharov discussed the region’s objectives in the field of child protection. A decision was made to open a day care centre for children with disabilities in Volzhsky as part of Maria Lvova-Belova’s Support Throughout Life strategic programme. The regional authorities will provide a building and employees for the centre, while the Commissioner will help with funding, renovation and equipment.
Maria Lvova-Belova noted the region’s good results in improving the lives of orphans and children without parental care, as well as the positive experience in working with families facing difficult situations, in particular, in arranging treatment for parents with alcohol misuse.
The Governor stressed that the Volgograd Region is developing additional measures to support families with children aimed at improving regional demographics and increasing the birth rate.
In addition, the discussion touched upon the future of the regional specialised foster home intended, in particular, for children from families facing difficult situations in life, and the possibility of returning such children to their parents.
As part of the working trip, Maria Lvova-Belova visited the Volgograd Regional Specialised Foster Home for Children with Organic Diseases of the Central Nervous System and the Regional Social Rehabilitation Centre for Minors, and met with representatives of non-profit organisations specialising in family and child protection.
