The first prototypes of national uniforms being developed for Russian school and university students taking part in international scientific and educational Olympiads were presented at Lomonosov Moscow State University. The presentation took place during the opening ceremony of the 60th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad.
Presidential Adviser Yelena Yampolskaya welcomed the guests at the presentation and said that the creation of a national uniform is the result of efforts by the Council for the Development and Promotion of a New Russian Style in the Public Space, which she chairs. The Council was established on the instructions of the President under the auspices of the Russia National Centre.
According to Yelena Yampolskaya, the designs presented form part of a formal line that will serve as the basis of the representative wardrobe for Russian national teams at international competitions. She noted that no standard unform had previously been created for Russian teams. Moreover, Russia is the first country to have conceived such an initiative, the Presidential Adviser said.
Yelena Yampolskaya added that the initiative has been implemented through the Council, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Specialists from Kosygin Russian State University also took part in developing the national uniform.
The Presidential Adviser emphasised the importance of the uniform in giving additional confidence to school and university students representing Russia at international competitions, helping them feel part of a single team called Russia.
In conclusion, Yelena Yampolskaya outlined plans to develop a casual line of the national uniform. She expressed hope that work on the uniform would be completed this year, enabling Russian teams to wear the new outfits as early as next year.
