The meeting was attended by Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov; Pskov Region Governor Mikhail Vedernikov; deputy heads of the constituent entities of the Northwestern Federal District; and representatives of federal and regional authorities, as well as the expert and academic communities.
Opening the seminar, Magomedsalam Magomedov highlighted the symbolic significance of holding the event in Pskov – one of Russia’s oldest cities, renowned for its military heritage and spiritual traditions, where the historical unity of the country’s peoples is especially evident.
In his remarks, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office emphasised that the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia coincides with the initiation of the implementation of the new Strategy for the State National Policy of the Russian Federation through 2036. “The central theme of the Year’s events is unity: unity around the national leader, unity between the front and the rear, unity in preserving Russia’s traditional spiritual and moral values, and, of course, the unity of the peoples of Russia,” Magomedsalam Magomedov noted.
Participants examined in detail the state of interethnic relations in the regions of the Northwestern Federal District, the results of public sentiment monitoring, mechanisms for conflict prevention, measures to counter external information influence, issues affecting the indigenous peoples of the region, and efforts to facilitate the adaptation of foreign nationals.
Particular attention was devoted to achieving the objectives set out in the Strategy, improving the system for monitoring interethnic relations, strengthening preventative work at the municipal level, supporting the Russian people, the Russian language, and Russian culture as the unifying foundation of the multi-ethnic Russian nation, and systematically reinforcing a shared civic identity.
The seminar concluded with the adoption of a number of relevant decisions.
As part of the working visit, Magomedsalam Magomedov and Igor Rudenya took part in the opening ceremony of a memorial complex dedicated to the defenders of the Fatherland who participated in the special military operation. They also held a working meeting with Governor of the Pskov Region Mikhail Vedernikov to discuss the region’s socioeconomic development, the implementation of state national policy, and activities planned within the framework of the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia.
