Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Magomedsalam Magomedov chaired a meeting of the Presidium of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations.
The meeting participants discussed the results of the evaluating nominations for the 2019 Presidential Award for Contributions to Strengthening Russia’s National Unity. A decision was made to nominate candidates for consideration at a special meeting of the Presidential Council for Interethnic Relations.
Presidium members and invited speakers discussed the situation of the Roma population in Russia. Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Igor Barinov reported on the implementation of a package of measures for the socioeconomic and cultural development of Roma people in the Russian Federation.
President of the Federal National-Cultural Autonomy of the Russian Roma Nadezhda Demetr spoke about the problems in her community.
During the discussion, participants specifically pointed out the need to improve the legal status of ethnic Roma, their preschool and general education, and more effective socialisation in areas with high concentrations of ethnic communities.
Respective decisions were adopted following the meeting.
