Mr Medvedev asked about the preparations for celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the city’s founding, which will take place in 2010.
Mr Vakhrukov said that funding for restoring historic monuments has been almost doubled. The city’s roads will also undergo reconstruction and repair, and work will be done to reinforce riverbank infrastructure.
The President took a walk along the Volga River embankment and visited the city’s restored Cathedral of the Assumption. Mr Medvedev arrived in Yaroslavl by river on board the motor ship Rossia, calling in on the way at the town of Myshkin, where he visited the sights and spoke with local residents.
