Addressing a scientific-practical conference organised to mark the Russian Constitution’s fifteenth anniversary, Dmitry Medvedev said that the social sector is one of the areas where laws are in need of serious development.
Mr Medvedev said that Russia needs a new quality of social policy – policies geared for social development. The state authorities have a duty to ensure that all citizens start out with equal opportunities and to protect their basic and inalienable social rights, the President said.
Mr Medvedev also announced that he has signed a decree awarding honorary certificates to the Constitution’s co-authors.
The conference, which is taking place in the State Kremlin Palace, was organised by the Russian Association of Jurists.
December 12 is celebrated as the Day of the Russian Federation Constitution.
