At the GECF meeting earlier in the day, delegates adopted the GECF charter and approved an agreement on organising within the forum’s framework an international organisation of gas exporting countries.
The Gas Exporting Countries’ Forum was founded in May 2001, in Teheran at a meeting of oil and energy ministers from Algeria, Brunei, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Qatar, Oman, Russia and Turkmenistan.
The countries participating in the GECF are Algeria, Bolivia, Brunei, Venezuela, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Qatar, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkmenistan, Equatorial Guinea, Norway and Kazakhstan.
