The two leaders discussed political aspects of Russian-Japanese relations and some issues of the dialogue between North and South Korea. Vladimir Putin and Junichiro Koizumi noted positive shifts in bilateral trade and economic relations, but admitted that the volume of trade between Russia and Japan was still insufficient.
The President invited Junichiro Koizumi to visit Russia later this year or early next year. The Japanese Prime Minister, in turn, said that he would gladly take part in the celebrations devoted to the 300th anniversary of St Petersburg in 2003.
