The Decree “On additional measures to increase state support of young Russian scholars – candidates of science and their supervisors” provides for the allocation of 500 grants to support scholarly research by young scholars (up to 35 years old) who are candidates of science, and 500 yearly grants for state support of their supervisors.
The grants are allocated to young Russian scholars who are candidates of science for two years to conduct scholarly research, and also as pay them for their work – a total of 60,000 rubles yearly (around US$2,000) Supervisors are given 24,000 rubles (about $900) at a time.
The total sum for paying these grants comes to 120 million rubles (around $4.3 million) in 2005 and 150 million rubles (over$5.3 million) each subsequent year.
100 yearly Presidential grants have also been established for state support of scholarly research by young scholars (up to 40 years old) who are doctors of science. Grants are divided into two years, and their total sum comes to 40 million rubles (around $1.5 million) in 2005 and 50 million rubles (around $1.8 million) each subsequent year.
