President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the People’s Republic of China Hu Jintao, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmonov, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and Acting President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiev took part in the meeting.
They were later joined by Nambaryn Enkhbayar, the President of Mongolia, which has observer status in the organisation.
Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz, First Vice-President of Iran Mohammad Reza Aref and Indian Foreign Minister Natwar Singh also took part in the summit’s work as representatives of countries that have just received observer status in the organisation as from today’s meeting.
The SCO Council of Heads of State summit resulted in the adoption of a number of documents.
The heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member countries held a press conference following their meeting.
