Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the Cabinet members and senior officials of the Presidential Executive Office on the question of the delimitation of powers between the federal and regional authorities in the Russian Federation.
Mr Putin noted that allowing the federal authorities in the regions to function more effectively is the main reason for raising this issue. Meanwhile, increasing numbers of organs represent the federal authority in the regions, but fail to have any positive effect.
The President urged that the question of delimitation of powers between the federal and regional authorities finally be resolved by August 26 when the session of the State Council in Kazan is scheduled.
The participants in meeting were Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Dmitri Medvedev, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidental Executive Office Vladislav Surkov, Presidential Aide Alexander Abramov, Presidential Aide and Head of the State Legal Directorate at the Presidential Executive Office Larissa Brycheva, Minister for Public Health and Social Development Mikhail Zurabov, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, Minister for Natural Resources Yury Trutnev, Plenipotentiary Presidential Representative to the Southern Federal District Dmitri Kozak, Deputy Minister of Economic Development Vitaly Savelyev, and head of the State Council working group on the delimitation of powers between the centre and the regions and head of the Republic of Komi Vladimir Torlopov.
