During the meeting the heads of state discussed the development prospects of Russian-Angolan economic and political relations as well as topical international and regional problems. They also addressed the theme of United Nations reform.
Russian-Angolan summit talks subsequently proceeded with the participation of delegations from both countries. Security Council Secretary Igor Ivanov, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko, Finance Minister Aleksei Kudrin, Natural Resources Minister and chairman of the Russian division of the Intergovernmental Russian-Angolan Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Trade Yuri Trutnev, Justice Minister Vladimir Ustinov, Director of the Federal Service for Military and Technological Cooperation Mikhail Dmitriev, General Director of Rosoboronexport Sergei Chemezov, and Russian Ambassador to Angola Andrei Kemarskii took part in the negotiations from the Russian party.
External Relations Minister Joao Bernardo de Miranda, Finance Minister Jose Pedro de Morais Junior, Justice Minister Manuel da Costa Aragao, Angolan Ambassador to Russia Samuel Tito Armando, deputy Defense Minister Gaspar dos Santos Rufino, deputy Interior Minister Sebastiao Antonio Martins, deputy Geology Minister Makenda Ambroise, secretary of the Angolan Council of Ministers Joaquim Antonio dos Reis Junior, chairman of the board of directors of Sonangol Manuel Vicente, and chairman of the board of directors of Endiama Manuel Arnaldo de Sousa Calado took part in the negotiations from the Angolan party.
Following the negotiations several dozens of documents were signed in the presence of the presidents of Russia and Angola, including intergovernmental agreements and memorandums between companies.
The Presidents of Russia and Angola also made press statements. The heads of stated emphasised the large potential for developing bilateral ties, including in the trade and economic spheres, the diamond mining industry, the energy sector, the oil and gas industry, transport and communications, and also expressed their hope that these relations will continue to develop in the future.
Vladimir Putin awarded the President of Angola, Jose Eduardo dos Santos, a Friendship Award for his personal contribution towards strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Mr dos Santos invited the President of Russia to make an official visit to Angola.
