Mr Putin was welcomed by Luisa Fernanda Rudi, the President of the Congress.
The Russian President expressed hope that bilateral inter-parliamentary contacts would bring the two countries closer together.
Ms Rudi will set up a permanent joint parliamentary group. According to Mr Putin, the group is expected to focus on relations between federal and regional authorities. He said that Russia considered Spanish experience in this sphere to be useful and important.
After the meeting, the Russian President wrote the following in the distinguished guests book:
“We attach great importance to our relationship with the leaders of the Congress of Deputies and to expanded cooperation between the Parliaments of Russia and Spain. The creation of a legislative basis for cooperation between our countries is a highly important element of bilateral relations.”
