This is the first visit by a Russian head of state to Luxembourg in the history of the two countries’ relations.
After a joint photo session in the Hall of Kings, Mr Putin and his wife Lyudmila spent time talking with Grand Duke Henri and Duchess Maria Theresa. Mr Putin presented Grand Duke Henri with a copy of a television film about the Grand Duke from the Formula Vlasti TV documentary series – a joint project between ITAR-TASS and Rossia television channel.
Grand Duke Henri hosted an official breakfast in honour of Mr Putin and his wife.
Mr Putin paid tribute to the memory of Luxembourg soldiers who gave their lives in World War Two by laying a wreath at the National Solidarity Monument. The President also talked with war veterans who had gathered at the monument.
