The Russian head of state arrived at an office of the Parliament of Australia where he was greeted by the Prime Minister of Australia.

After a joint photography session and after the President of Russia signed the book for honoured guests, Vladimir Putin and John Howard had a conversation. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Aide Sergei Prikhodko took part in the discussion from the Russian party.

The talks then proceeded with both countries' delegations.

At the beginning of his speech Vladimir Putin noted that cooperation between Russia and Australia has new possibilities and is steadily expanding.

Following the talks the President of Russia and Prime Minister of Australia adopted two joint statements, one of which concerns climate change and the energy sector.

Russia and Australia also concluded an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Following the negotiations Vladimir Putin and John Howard gave a joint press conference.

Vladimir Putin categorically denied rumors that Russia might use the uranium it purchased in Australia for military purposes. Russia's Australian uranium will be used in Russia's nuclear power plants.

Speaking at the official lunch hosted by the Australian Prime Minister in honour of the Russian head of state, Vladimir Putin emphasised that Russia is ready to cooperate actively with Australia in the international arena, including within the APEC summit.

After lunch Vladimir Putin went for a walk beside the sea in the Sydney harbour. Chief Executive Officer Robert Lang of the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, an organisation for preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the Sydney harbour, accompanied the President.
