In his letter, President Putin points out that India entered the 21st century as a powerful democratic state, one that enjoys considerable clout in the international arena. Russian-Indian relations have successfully stood the test of time and weathered all the twists and turns of modern history, he said.
In recent years, their historical friendship has assumed a new quality, rising to the level of strategic partnership, something that, according to President Putin, will become a key factor in world politics in the 21st century. He said this was especially important now that the human race is faced with the threat of global terrorism.
“The Russian and the Indian nations have experienced the tragic consequences of this evil, which transcends borders,“ reads the President Putin’s message. “I believe we should fight it with perseverance and that the world community will be able to eliminate the terrorist threat only if it pulls together… I hope Russia and India will continue their active political interaction for the benefit of both nations as well as for the sake of international security.”
