Addressing the meeting, Mr Putin said that economic growth, making the economy more competitive and forming a strong social policy depend on the ability to carry out important systemic objectives over the coming years. Reaching these objectives will ultimately ensure Russia’s lasting status as world leader.
Demographic development, strengthening the family and rearing a healthy and educated young generation are among the greatest priorities. These are the issues the public considers important for the country’s future, Mr Putin said. People see in the Federal Address a working strategy that opens up long-term historic development prospects for the country and they gave their support in the December 2 parliamentary election to the political forces able and willing to carry out this strategy, the President said.
The meeting’s decisions will serve as the basis for necessary amendments to the draft national development strategy for the period through to 2020, Mr Putin said.
