Relations between Russia and South Korea have developed rapidly over these last years. Both countries see their common task as being to strengthen their bilateral relations and develop a strategic partnership, Mr Medvedev said following his talks with President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak.
This approach has been set out in the Joint Declaration adopted by the two Presidents.
Mr Medvedev said that Moscow and Seoul agreed to step up their political dialogue, above all at the top level, build up ties between government ministries and the business communities, and facilitate contacts between people from both countries. The President said he is sure that the agreement on simplifying procedures for issuing visas signed today will make a real contribution to reaching this objective.
Agreements on cooperation in the gas sector, geology and subsoil resources use, and the high-technology sector were also signed in the presence of the two Presidents.
