Dmitry Medvedev expressed his satisfaction with the way bilateral cooperation is developing during his visit to Caracas.
The President said he was very pleased with the outcome of talks with his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chavez. The two Presidents discussed cooperation in the current situation of global economic crisis, examined big investment projects, reached an agreement on establishing a Russian-Venezuelan bank, and discussed the possibilities for conducting mutual settlements using the two countries’ national currencies – the rouble and the bolivar. Military technical cooperation was also on the agenda.
Several agreements on cooperation in a wide range of areas were signed during the visit. They include agreements in the energy sector, including nuclear energy, the shipbuilding industry, agriculture, science and technology, aviation and railway transport. An agreement on visa-free travel for Russian and Venezuelan citizens was also signed.
Mr Medvedev noted that Russia and Venezuela share very close positions on the key issues in international life.
