Dmitry Medvedev declared this at the opening of the World Grain Forum in St Petersburg.
The President noted that in recent years Russia has regained its position as a major grain exporter and has become one of the top three wheat exporters in the world. Mr Medvedev stressed the importance Russia attributes to regional cooperation in this sphere, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
The President referred to the problem of hunger on a global scale, instability of global food markets, rising food prices, producing biofuels from inedible sources, and environmental safety of agricultural production as the main topics to be discussed at the Forum.
Dmitry Medvedev stressed that providing the world's population with grain is not just a question of food security, but also a very complex social issue related to preserving stability in various regions of the world.
