Ship commander, Captain 1st Rank Sergei Tronev showed the President around the warship. Moskva is the most advanced in a series of missile cruisers and was designed to support the Navy in remote waters of the globe.
In August 2008 the cruiser was part of the group of Black Sea Fleet ships that supported a peace enforcement operation by Russian military in South Ossetia, aimed at forcing Georgian authorities to restore peace.
The main base for Black Sea Fleet warships on Russian coasts has been built in Novorossiysk Bay since 2005. The programme should be completed by 2020. Hydraulic and onshore facilities are currently under construction. Subsequently, an infrastructure for maritime aviation, marine infantry units and coastal defence troops will be built.
