The message reads, in part:
“I am genuinely happy to see that the idea of holding this festival has received such broad public support and brought together so many people of different ages, backgrounds and interests. You are all people who love Russia and take an interest in its history and unique traditions, and you are involved in and feel a sense of personal responsibility for preserving our country’s unique cultural and natural heritage.
This festival is taking place as the RGS marks its 170th anniversary, and so the programme is particularly full and diverse. The festival’s events give people the chance to learn about the Russian Geographical Society and its work today, the projects its big and close-knit team are pursuing, and the results of its activities in science, research and education. Participants will also have the chance to meet with well-known scientists, ecologists and local historians, and take part in interesting creative and educational events, including the National Geographical Dictation.
I am confident that this festival will live up to the highest expectations and be remembered for its welcoming and hospitable atmosphere.”
