The current law limits only the minimum age from which Russian Federation citizens can stand for election to local self-government bodies. Under the current provisions, the minimum age requirement must not exceed 21 years while additional related conditions may be governed by regional laws.
Analysis of the regional legislations has revealed that the majority of entities allow people to run as candidates in municipal elections from the age of 21.
The draft law proposes amending the current practice and setting clear provisions on eligibility for running in municipal elections from the age of 18.
