Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences in connection with the railway crash in the Iranian province of Semnan on November 25, which resulted in numerous casualties.
Current issues of Russian-Iranian cooperation were a focus of the conversation, primarily joint priority projects in trade and the economy. Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani reviewed the progress on implementing the agreements reached at the Baku meeting on August 8, 2016. They expressed mutual support for continuing the multifaceted development of bilateral relations, such as maintaining positive dynamics in bilateral trade, which has increased by 80 percent in the first nine months of this year, amounting to $1.6 billion.
The two presidents agreed to continue coordinating steps in global hydrocarbon markets, including as part of the Russia-OPEC energy dialogue, and noted the critical importance of measures taken by OPEC to limit crude oil production as the key factor in stabilising the global oil market.
Mr Putin and Mr Rouhani also discussed the situation in the Middle East. They highly rated the level of Russian-Iranian cooperation on the anti-terrorist track and agreed to continue to work closely together to ensure the long-term normalisation of the situation in Syria.
