The message reads, in part:
“Daniil Granin was a great thinker, an outstanding writer and journalist, and a man of immense spiritual strength and dignity. His was dedicated and committed to serving his Fatherland and the public good, and was passionate about Russia and its future. He was a centre of gravity and an uncontested moral beacon for people of different views.
I am confident that as years go by we will come to grasp the terrible loss sustained by Russian culture, the entire country and St Petersburg, where Daniil Granin spent most of his life.”
Daniil Granin died in St Petersburg on July 4. He was 98.
