During Russian-Swiss talks, in addition to bilateral relations, international security, energy security, and dealing with the global financial crisis were the subjects discussed.
President Medvedev referred to Switzerland as a long-standing and important trading partner and Russia's influential foreign-policy partner.
During the talks agreements on visas, readmission, sports and assistance in emergency situations were signed. Dmitry Medvedev said that a number of other agreements are in preparation, including those in the sphere of the economy, science and technology.
At a meeting with entrepreneurs Dmitry Medvedev stressed that Russia and Switzerland need a new plan for the development of economic cooperation.
The President of Russia took part in the celebration of the 210th anniversary of the Alpine expedition of Russia's military commander Alexander Suvorov, whose memory is revered in Switzerland.
Mr Medvedev noted that this respectful attitude to the past is the basis of trust and understanding between peoples. He added that it is important for the stable development of Europe on the basis of partnership, good neighbourliness and cooperation.
The present visit is the first by a Russian leader to Switzerland in the history of their bilateral relations.
