Hassan Rouhani and Vladimir Putin briefed each other on their countries’ fight against the coronavirus infection and agreed to continue their cooperation in this area, including between their healthcare ministries.
The two presidents discussed various aspects of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran’s nuclear programme. Vladimir Putin pointed out that the JCPOA was vital for the maintenance of global stability and security.
Hassan Rouhani reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the JCPOA and readiness for equal and constructive collaboration both with all of its signatories and within the IAEA. He also thanked Vladimir Putin for Russia’s consistent stand in favour of preserving and implementing the nuclear deal.
Exchanging views on Syria, both leaders emphasised the expedience of the decisions taken following the July 1, 2020 trilateral conference of the heads of state – guarantors of the Astana process, who met at the initiative of Iran. They also expressed their mutual resolve to further coordinate their efforts with the aim of reaching a lasting peace and improving the humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic.
The discussion also covered current topics on the bilateral agenda, including the implementation of large joint energy projects.
The President of Iran congratulated Vladimir Putin on the success of the nationwide vote on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation.
It was agreed to maintain contacts at various levels.
