The Government has been set a deadline of four months for approving a comprehensive programme to guarantee public safety in the transport systems, above all in the metro and other types of public transport. The programme will unite the efforts and resources of executive authorities responsible for transport safety at every level.
The Government has been given until March 31, 2011 to equip the most vulnerable means of transport and parts of the transport infrastructure with specialised technical systems and devices to protect them from unlawful interference. A comprehensive system to ensure public safety, prevent emergency situations and terrorist attacks and protect users is to be in place throughout the transport system by January 1, 2014.
The Government has been instructed to select the organisations to be charged with developing the new technical systems, and to ensure the necessary funding from the federal budget for the comprehensive transport safety system’s operation.
The Transport Ministry will oversee the comprehensive system’s establishment.
