The telegram reads, in part:
“You are one of the constellation of the outstanding Russian artists and all of your paintings are expression of your genuine love for Russia, its history and culture. Of special significance are your paintings devoted to the Great Patriotic War and the Leningrad blockade which you fully experienced yourself.
Whether basing your works on the Russian classic literature or creating the portraits of your contemporary fellow citizens, you consistently and successfully strive to fully reveal the unique personality, individuality and spiritual riches of your characters.
Your social and educational activities are also greatly appreciated. It was due to your efforts that the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture was founded to become cradle for many talented painters.”
