President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Good evening, friends. I am very happy to see you.
I know that tomorrow, you are holding the 10th Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation National Security Council Secretaries. This is an important meeting to be held ahead of the SCO Summit, which is scheduled for July 9–10, 2015 in Ufa.
Our organisation is gaining momentum and becoming an increasingly prestigious international entity, making a significant, very salient input into stabilising the situation in an enormous region of the world.
Unfortunately, our meeting is taking place as we face a fairly difficult international situation. We are all concerned about the crisis in North Africa, in Yemen, in Syria and in Libya. We in Russia are certainly very concerned about the situation in Ukraine. All this taken together puts particular responsibility on the special services that you curate, the councils and structures in charge of national security.
I know that our agenda includes many current issues, many issues pertaining to improving instruments for our cooperation. One of them is the fight against terrorism, organised crime and drug trafficking. All of these are issues of concern for the citizens of our nations and for virtually all people throughout the world.
So I would like to wish you success. I very much hope that during your work ahead of the SCO Summit in the Russian city of Ufa, you will develop recommendations for the leaders of your nations and governments so that during our meeting, we can rely on the materials you created and reach further decisions that will strengthen security for all our states.
It is my pleasure to see all of you in Moscow. Welcome.
