The water sports palace, gymnastics centre and other sports facilities have already been built in Kazan in preparation for the World University Games and are ready for visitors.
The 45,000-seat soccer stadium will be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as hosting the Games’ media centre, conference area for delegation heads, and a religious centre. The stadium is also to be one of the venues for matches when Russia hosts the Soccer World Cup in 2018.
The water sports palace has three pools and will host its first test competitions in April. In May, it will be the venue for a competition in the International Diving Federation’s Grand Prix series, and in 2015 will be the main venue for the world water sports championship.
Other facilities built for the 2013 World University Games include the gymnastics centre and the Kazan Tennis Academy.
