Winner of the National Award for Outstanding Achievements in Charity Work Vladimir Vavilov

December 18, 2017

The 2017 National Award of the Russian Federation for Outstanding Achievements in Charity Work was awarded to Vladimir Vavilov, chairman of the Board of the Anzhela Vavilova Regional Public Charity Foundation for Children with Leukaemia, Republic of Tatarstan.

Vladimir Vavilov was born on November 6, 1953, in Kazan. He worked as a bus driver; since 2003 he has chaired the Board of the Anzhela Vavilova Regional Public Charity Foundation for Children with Leukaemia. Since 2011 he has chaired the Supervisory Council of the First Children’s Hospice, and since 2013 he has been a member of the Civic Chamber of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Mr Vavilov established the foundation in memory of his five-year-old daughter Anzhela, who died of cancer.

The foundation raised money and provided material, social, psychological and legal assistance to over 1,000 children with oncohaematological diseases. The foundation purchased medical equipment and launched a project on remote education for children undergoing long-term treatment. In 2011 it organised on-site palliative hospice aid.

Mr Vavilov also raised money for the construction of an in-patient hospice for children. In 2014 the in-patient facility of the non-profit private medical company Children’s Hospice opened in Kazan. An affiliate of a hospice for adults opened in 2015.
