Maria Lvova-Belova visited Kherson Region
Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova made a working visit to the Kherson Region, where she met with the region’s head, Vladimir Saldo. During her visit, she held a meeting with the heads of relevant departments, toured institutions and large families in the area, and delivered humanitarian aid.
The primary focus of the visit to the Kherson Region was the development of a system to prevent social orphanhood.
Maria Lvova-Belova highlighted the significant progress made in the region: a regional commissioner for children’s rights has been appointed, commissions for minors have been established in all 14 districts, and the transition to a unified management model has been completed, with the regional Ministry of Labour and Social Protection now overseeing the system for preventing social orphanhood.
She added that 479 children from the region participated in the Day After Tomorrow shifts, organised by the Commissioner’s office, while the In Children’s Hands headquarters in Genichesk assisted over a thousand children.
The Commissioner held a working meeting with the heads of the regional prevention system bodies and institutions. Maria Lvova-Belova proposed leveraging the resources of the In Children’s Hands headquarters as an operator of targeted assistance to families, aiming to prevent children from being placed in institutions. The region will also assess cases where support can be provided to parents to help them restore or remove restrictions on their parental rights.
Maria Lvova-Belova toured the building of the future Kherson Regional Children’s Home, which is currently under renovation. The Commissioner’s team, in collaboration with the Country for Children Foundation, donated a refrigerator safe and toys to the Novokievsky Social Rehabilitation Centre.
Additionally, Maria Lvova-Belova held a personal reception for citizens and visited a large rural family to which livestock and feed had been donated earlier.
