Visit to Greece and Mount Athos

On May 27, Vladimir Putin held talks with Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras. Following the consultations, a Political Declaration of Russia and Greece was adopted, and a number of documents were signed.

On the same day, Vladimir Putin also met with President of Greece Prokopios Pavlopoulos and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, president of the New Democracy party, and visited the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens where he attended the opening of the exhibition of the Ascension icon by Andrei Rublev.

On May 28, President Vladimir Putin visited Mount Athos, met with members of the Holy Kinot and visited Rossikon, the St Panteleimon Monastery on Mount Athos. The Russian President’s visit was timed to coincide with celebrations of 1,000 years of the Russian monastic presence in Mount Athos.
