Mahmoud Abbas congratulated Vladimir Putin and the Russian people on the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War as well as on the results of the nationwide vote on amendments to the Russian Constitution.
The two leaders had an in-depth discussion on the Middle East peace settlement. Russia reaffirmed its principled approach in support of a just and long-term solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with the existing international legal framework. The importance of strengthening intra-Palestinian unity was stressed in this context.
The presidents also discussed current issues of Russian-Palestinian cooperation, considering agreements following the two leaders’ meeting in Bethlehem in January 2020. They agreed to continue cooperation in countering the spread of the coronavirus.
