Opening the meeting, President Vladimir Putin thanked President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, who presided the CSTO Council for Collective Security over the last year, for his contribution to strengthening the organisation.
Mr Nazarbayev handed over his powers as President of the Council to Mr Putin for the next year.
The session ended with the adoption of a number of documents, including an agreement on training for military personnel and a joint declaration by the heads of state of the CSTO member countries.
Following the session’s closure the presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan met with journalists.
