The consultations took place in the Tomsk University Library’s reading room and were attended by 58 representatives of the two countries.
Developing trade and economic ties was the central focus of the consultations.
President Vladimir Putin named the energy, aviation and space sectors as the main areas in which the two countries are working together and called for a shift away from traditional forms of trade relations towards large-scale cooperation.
Following the consultations, eight agreements were signed in the presence of the two leaders.
Mr Putin and Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel then held a press conference.
