Attending the meeting were representatives of specialised ministries, judicial agencies, regional prosecutors’ offices and commissioners for children’s rights from seven regions. The officials reviewed the cases of five families.

A resident of Moscow wants her parental rights to be reinstated and to reunite with her two daughters. It was agreed that the authorities will help her obtain the required documents for reinstating her parental rights; she will also receive psychological counselling for strengthening her relationship with the children.

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights will support a young mother from the Republic of Crimea whom the authorities want to deprive of parental rights with regard to her elder son. Guardianship agencies decided that she cannot effectively raise her son due to her age and unstable financial and housing situation. Maria Lvova-Belova noted that it became possible to convince guardianship agencies to revise their decision; they will toss out their lawsuit on depriving the woman of her parental rights. The Commissioner will help reimburse the mother for the services of a legal attorney.

After visiting the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Commissioner for Children’s Rights monitors a situation with three sisters who have found themselves in an orphanage after their mother suffered a stroke and was taken to hospital. The father of the girls always lived with them but was not registered accordingly. To bring the children home, it was decided to help prove his fatherhood, draw up documents and provide payments, and to completely renovate their residence.

The authorities will help a mother form Smolensk to bring her son back from a guardian who is no longer authorised to act as such.
