On the eve of Victory Day, Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden.

Taking part in the ceremony to mark the 69th anniversary of the Victory were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev Medvedev Dmitry Medvedev DmitryDeputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation , Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Ivanov Ivanov Sergei Ivanov SergeiSpecial Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport , State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin Naryshkin Sergei Naryshkin SergeiDirector of the Foreign Intelligence Service , Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko Matviyenko Valentina Matviyenko ValentinaChairwoman of the Council of Federation , President of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin Zorkin Valery Zorkin ValeryConstitutional Court President , Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu Shoigu Sergei Shoigu SergeiDefence Minister , heads of ministries and agencies, deputies, senators and Great Patriotic War veterans.

Service members of the Moscow garrison troops representing all types and branches of the Armed Forces marched past the monument to the accompaniment of an orchestra.

The President also laid flowers at the memorials to Hero Cities Background information Hero City and Cities of Military Glory Background information City of Military Glory by the Kremlin Wall.
