Mr Medvedev learned about the production of gold and silver ingots at the Kolyma Affinage Plant and visited exhibitions at the Magadan Regional History Museum on industrial and road construction in the Upper Kolyma District, the Stalin-era repressions, and the region’s natural resource wealth.
The President also laid flowers at the Mask of Sorrow memorial to the victims of political repression in Magadan.
Mr Medvedev visited the regional air traffic control centre that manages Russian and foreign air traffic over the Far East region.
Later, at a meeting on Magadan Region’s social and economic development, the President said the tragic pages in the country’s history must not be forgotten and noted that the region’s potential was built through the blood and sweat of millions of people. We do not have the right to lose what was achieved at such a cost, Mr Medvedev said.
