The President attended the opening of Russia’s first liquefied natural gas plant. In his welcoming speech at the ceremony, Mr Medvedev said that the start of production at the LNG plant will bolster Russia’s position as one of the main players on the energy market. Running at full capacity, the plant will produce almost 10 million tons of liquefied natural gas and cover up to five percent of world supplies of this fuel, the President said.
Mr Medvedev also met with business community members and called on them to carry out big new energy projects in Siberia and the Far East, saying that such projects would lay the foundations for economic growth.
Later, at a meeting on making Russia’s participation in international energy cooperation more effective, Mr Medvedev set the goals of improving the country’s energy system and developing transit of energy resources, and noted the need for action plans to strengthen Russia’s position on the global energy market.
