President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr President, colleagues, it is a great pleasure to see you again.
I remember how you and the Supreme Leader, Mr Khamenei, gave me such a warm reception in Tehran. We have travelled a long way since then in developing our bilateral relations. Our friendly ties are growing stronger and it is pleasing to see that they cover a wide range of areas.
This is true of our economic ties, our political contacts in all areas, and our humanitarian ties.
I think that we can thank Mr Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, for organising this meeting, which gives us the chance to discuss in trilateral format our bilateral relations and the situation in the region.
President of Iran Hassan Rouhani (retranslated): Mr President, I am very pleased to have this new opportunity to meet with you to discuss the issues of interest.
Your visit to Tehran was an effective step for developing our relations. We will never forget the positive role that Russia played in reaching the nuclear agreement, and we will never forget your role in implementing this agreement.
I am very pleased to see that our trade turnover and trade relations have posted growth over the first months of this year.
Today we have a good opportunity for the presidents of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan to hold consultations together. This meeting can play an important part in strengthening our trilateral relations and bolstering stability and security in our region.
