President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping Xi Jinping Xi JinpingPresident of People's Republic of China (retranslated): My longtime friend, I am very glad to see you in Beijing again.

Just yesterday, we participated in the SCO summit in Tianjin. Tomorrow, you, Mr President, and I, as well as heads of state, representatives of international organisations and honoured guests from five continents, will be solemnly celebrating the 80th anniversary of victory of the Chinese people in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.

From May 9 to September 3, we are attending each other’s celebrations of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. This has become a good tradition in bilateral relations, and also convincingly demonstrates the great responsibility of China and Russia as the main victorious countries in World War II and permanent members of the UN Security Council, and shows firm determination of the two countries to uphold the outcomes of World War II and its historical truth.

Chinese-Russian relations have withstood the test of international climate and stand as a model of interstate relations, good-neighbourliness, friendship, comprehensive strategic partnership, mutually beneficial cooperation and shared success.

Working resolutely under our guidance over the past few years in the spirit of our proclaimed goals, China and Russia have achieved substantial results in their bilateral cooperation. We are ready to continue supporting each other in our national development and prosperity, to steadfastly uphold international justice and equality, and to advance the establishment of a more just and rational system of global governance.

Thank you.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr President, my dear friend,

The Russian delegation and I personally are delighted to meet with our Chinese friends and colleagues again. I would like to thank you for the warm welcome extended to our delegation.

Our close communication reflects the strategic nature of Russian-Chinese ties, which have reached an unprecedented level. This came fully to light during your May visit to Russia and your participation in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Tomorrow, festive celebrations of the 80th anniversary of victory over Japan and the end of World War II will be held in Beijing, which we will jointly attend.

As you have said just now, there may be rain, but it will not dampen our festive mood, and the Chinese armed forces will hold this solemn event as effectively as usual.

Our decision to jointly celebrate the anniversary of the Great Victory in Moscow and Beijing, as we did ten years ago in 2015, carries special significance. It is a tribute to the heroism of our nations, the people of Russia and China during World War II, a reaffirmation of the key role our countries played in the European and Asian theatres of war, and a testament to our shared commitment to defending historical truth and justice.

Our ancestors, fathers and grandfathers paid an enormous price for peace and freedom. We do not forget this – we remember. It is the foundation, the bedrock of our achievements today and in the future.

We vividly remember our cooperation in the 1930s and in 1945. The memory of our combat brotherhood, of trust, mutual assistance, and our resolute protection of our common interests laid the groundwork for the comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation between Russia and China in the new era. We stood together then, and we stand together now.

Thank you for the invitation.

I am confident that our consultations on current issues and long-term plans will be held at the highest level as well.

Thank you very much.
