The school is now a memorial complex. The walls of the gym, where the militants held the hostages, are lined with photographs of the victims. Every year, the Memory Watch event takes place there in the first three days of September. A frame has been erected around the building to protect it from further destruction. A memorial plaque with the names of all the victims has been installed outside.
The former school now houses an international cultural and patriotic centre dedicated to the prevention of terrorism.
During the visit, the President was accompanied by Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the North Caucasus Federal District Yury Chaika and Head of the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania Sergei Menyailo. Head of the Pravoberezhny District municipality Soslan Frayev gave a tour of the memorial.
